What happens on sunday mornings?

We love to have visitors and guests at our Sunday morning services and we do our best to make everyone to feel ‘at home’.

We welcome young people, old people, married people, single people, divorced people, happy people, sad people, families with and without children, single parents, agnostics, saints, sinners, Christians of all denominations, those of all faiths and those without faith…

Our Sunday mornings are spent in worship through song, prayer, teaching and fellowship. At various times throughout the year we will share in the Lord’s Supper, children will be baptised, adults will be baptised and people will be confirmed in their faith to be received into full membership. All during our services of worship.

Services begin at 11.00am. Greeters will be at our entrances to meet you and direct you to where you need to go. They will try to answer any questions you may have. Just ask them.

The service normally finishes around 12.00 when we hope you will join us for a chat over tea or coffee and biscuits - there might even be buns!

We don’t have a dress code, so feel free to come as you are. We’re pretty relaxed so hopefully you won’t feel intimidated (and the exits are clearly marked if you don’t like us!).

It is in this worship service that we aim to create space for people to both learn about God and to encounter Him. We use music (both familiar and new), quietness and prayer, teaching and reflection to allow you to connect with God and worship. We want everyone to be comfortable in this space so feel free to sit, stand, or move around, as you need to.

We take up an offering each week. However this is for church members and we do not expect our guests to contribute.

You are very welcome to bring your baby into the service, or you can make use of our crèche, First Friends, where you can leave your little one to be looked after, or just stay with them. If you do leave your baby and they should need you during the service, one of our crèche team will come and find you. We have baby changing facilities within the disabled toilet, which is adjacent to the room used for crèche.

Our children’s ministries - ‘Jigsaw’ and ‘Journeyers’ - run during term time for those in their pre-school year and up to Year 11. In First we are passionate about communicating the good news of Jesus and His kingdom to the next generation. We believe that our children and young people are important, not just as the church of tomorrow but as a vital and essential part of who we are as church today. We have great groups for each age group and all of our volunteers are trained, trusted and love working with children. We have policies and procedures in place to ensure your child’s safety and welfare while in our care.

There are parking spaces close to the main doors to the church and an access ramp to the hall. We have a disabled toilet and a hearing loop for those who require it. We welcome adults and children with special needs and we try to ensure that all aspects of church life are accessible to disabled and able bodied alike.

Hopefully this gives you some idea of what its like on a Sunday morning at First.  So why not come along?  We’d love to meet you!
